DORK OF THE RINGS MOVIE - WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

By Zorina Exie Jerome, Staff Writer

It can be said that most IUSB students have been too busy with their own projects and assignments to catch the buzz that a movie was being shot in our local area. Perhaps some people dismissed the news thinking, “A movie? Being shot in South Bend? Whatever!” Nonetheless, IUSB graduate, Tim Richardson’s production, “The Dork of the Rings,” is scheduled to premiere in June of 2006. Richardson and his crew are currently in post-production stage of the movie.

Since early September of 2004, “The Dork of the Rings” has received publicity from the IUSB Preface, South Bend Tribune, Plymouth Pilot News, St. Petersburg Times, Orlando Weekly to the Indy News Channel, to name a few. Richardson, along with his cast and crew, have traveled far and wide promoting the film. Several screenings of the movie have exposed the “Dork of the Rings” posse to celebrities such as Sean Astin, (Samwise Gamgee of “The Lord of the Rings”) and Elijah Wood, (Frodo Baggins, also from “The Lord of the Rings”).

“The Dork of the Rings” is a parody of “The Lord of the Rings.” It is the “Scary Movie” to “Scream” or “Don’t Be a Menace to Society While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood” to “Boyz in the Hood.”

The characters are similar to the main characters in “The Lord of the Rings,” with a little twist.

Introducing, Bobo Buggins, played by Bryce Cone, who is the hero of the story. Also, a Throbbit. In Richardson’s world, Throbbits are pointy-eared little people who live on a golf course. Next, are the Dweebs who look like Vikings, but are not. Dweebs are actually nerds who live in their parent’s basement and play video games all day long. South Bend’s own George Lucas also added the race of humans. Then, there are the Elfises, who are part elves and Elvis. Uh-huh, that is correct. Elvis. Finally, there are the bad guys: Nosedrools, The Dorks and The Sporks. Nosedrools are security guards with a enormous nose, The Dorks are basically pawns of the great Dork Executive, Mauron, and The Sporks is Lord Mauron’s army.

All of these characters are placed in Muddle-Earth, specifically in a land called Lardor. Here, Lord Mauron replicates credit cards and dispenses them to the Elfises, the Dweebs and the humans. Of course, Mauron keeps the real master card (or ring) to himself. (It can be said that this master card may be one of those mini-master cards on a keyring, therefore, making it a “Master-Ring!”). Soon, the people of Muddle-Earth’s credit plummets and everyone comes to their senses and not only closes their account, but closes Lord Mauron’s operation. Mauron’s credit is non-existent. And so is his master-ring. Somehow, this ring, finds itself in the hands of Bobo Buggins and thus, the parody begins.
