MOVIES: BONNIE BRITTON
Oh, lordy, here comes 'The Dork'
Spoofing movies in movies isn't a new concept, but a locally produced movie is taking on "The Lord of the Rings."
An "epic parody," "The Dork of the Rings," gets a big-screen shot at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Gary Wood, maker of "Saving Star Wars" and "Open Mic'rs," is presenting the Indiana- and Michigan-shot movie through his WoodWorks films.
He says the movie's theme song is by Luke Ski, Dr. Demento's most requested artist since 2000. Ski performed here at the GenCon gamers'
event this month.
Wood calls it a "limitations-be-damned" movie, because it looks bigger than its budget.
Director Tim Richardson and co-writer and producer Michael Kouroubetes have used the fan convention trail to market "The Dork of the Rings,"
stopping in Seattle, Germany, Atlanta, Toronto, New York and other places, showing clips and behind-the-scenes footage.
Crew and actors from Indiana and Illinois -- about 200 in all -- contributed to the project.
Special-engagement ticket prices apply: $12; $11 for 60 and older and $10 for children. |
